DIVORCE: A PHYSICAL IMPOSSIBILITY

Jesus Christ has said that there is NEVER to be divorce FOR ANY REASON.

“Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” Matthew 19:4-6

Note here that Christ says when a man and woman marry, they become one flesh. This means that marriage is the closest, most intimate human relationship in existence. Closer than the brother to brother relationship, closer than the brother-sister relationship, closer than mother-son, and father-daughter. And make no mistake, these rationships are close relationships.

Consider: there is nothing in this world that can be done by any human being short of physical killing, to destroy, say, a mother-son relationship. No matter what happens, that son will always be that son of his mother. Courts can terminate parental and visitation rights, enmity can bring the emotional bond to a low ebb, or illness can prevent the son's loving gaze to be returned. The boy could grow up and become an astronaut, and fly the 240,000 miles to the moon, and that distance would not in the slightest way diminish his status as his mother's son.

But as close as these familial relationships are, God does not describe them using the language of “one flesh”. God applies this to the marital relationship. Therefore, judges and courts can violate the Law of God and write up pieces of paper that grant people apparent divorces but the fact is that the husband and wife remain one flesh. This is why when divorced people marry someone else, these subsequent marriages are adulterous marriages. The first marriage was still in effect, because the couple in the original marriage are still one flesh. No piece of paper can change that.

Therefore, people who divorce and then marry someone else while the former spouse(s) is(are) still living are serial polygamists. Sadly, this terrible sin has engulfed the world like a plague.
